Protect Your Stripe Account from New Phishing Threats

Stripe Phishing Scams on the Rise – Here’s How to Stay Safe

At WildFrog Systems, we keep a close eye on the security threats that impact local businesses. Recently, we’ve seen an uptick in phishing scams targeting Stripe accounts. If your business uses Stripe for payments, this is something you’ll want to know about.

What’s happening?
Phishing scams are attempts to trick you into giving away sensitive information like passwords, two-step authentication codes, or financial details. These scams often show up as emails—or even phone calls—that pretend to be from Stripe.

Here’s the catch: they’ll usually claim something urgent, like your payments being paused or payouts being frozen. That sense of panic is exactly what scammers want—they’re hoping you’ll hand over information quickly without stopping to verify.

How to spot a phishing attempt:

  • Email red flags: Messages that don’t come from a proper @stripe.com address, or that include odd spelling, dashes, or numbers.

  • Fake urgency: Warnings about “immediate action required” to fix your account.

  • Unexpected calls: Stripe will never call you out of the blue. If someone does, hang up and go directly to Stripe’s support page.

How to protect your Stripe account:

  • Validate before you click. Double-check email addresses and website URLs carefully.

  • Use a bookmark to sign in. Save the official Stripe login page and only use that link.

  • Turn on strong authentication. Use two-step authentication with an authenticator app or security key, not just SMS.

  • Check your browser extensions. Only install ones from trusted companies—some malicious ones can capture your login info.

Phishing is frustrating, but with a little extra caution, you can stay one step ahead. If something doesn’t feel right, trust your instincts and don’t click.

And remember, you don’t have to face cybersecurity threats alone. At WildFrog Systems, we help local businesses stay secure with proactive monitoring, expert advice, and personalized IT solutions.
