Stay Safe: Amazon Will Never Ask for Your Password
Amazon Impersonation Scams: How to Spot and Stop Them
Amazon is a household name—and unfortunately, that makes it a favourite target for scammers. Recently, we’ve seen more impersonation scams where fraudsters pose as Amazon through calls, texts, and emails. Their goal is to trick you into sharing personal details or account credentials.
What these scams look like
Scammers may claim there’s an issue with your account, such as:
A “fraud investigation” where you need to “verify” your details.
An alert about “unauthorized” or “suspicious” activity on your account.
The messages may feel urgent, but that’s the point—they want you to act quickly before you realize it’s a scam.
How to stay safe
Remember what Amazon will never do. Amazon will never ask for your password, your one-time password (OTP), or any sensitive personal information over the phone.
Use the Message Centre. Log in at Amazon.ca or the app and check the Message Centre to see authentic Amazon communications.
Go directly to the website. If you need to update billing or account details, type amazon.ca into your browser instead of clicking on links in emails or texts.
Get support the right way. Amazon’s Customer Service is available 24/7 through official channels.
Help keep others safe
If you get a suspicious call, text, or email that looks like it’s from Amazon, don’t click, don’t reply, and don’t share information. Instead, report it to amazon.ca/reportascam.
Staying alert is the best way to protect yourself from phishing and impersonation scams. And if you’re a business, remember that threats like these don’t stop at personal accounts—cybercriminals often use the same tricks to target your staff, vendors, or company accounts.
